Production of 28,000 megawatts requires a trilion investment

The government’s aim of 28,500 megawatts of power, an investment of Rs 6.5 trillion is required. This information was disclosed at the signing ceremony for the financial management agreement for the Lalupate Hydropower Company’s 49.95 megawatt Danakhola Hydropower Project. The project is being built in the Manang district’s Nasong Rural Municipality-2. According to Deepak Khadka, the government is collaborating with the business sector to advance the energy industry. The national economy would benefit from significant investments in the electricity industry, according to IPPAN President Ganesh Karki. The Danakhola Hydropower Project, which is expected to be finished by the third week of October 2028, is mostly owned by Sanima Bank.

According to Chairman Dangi, Rs 9.96 billion is being invested in the project’s construction. About 2,800 MW of Nepal’s hydroelectric power is produced, of which 2,100 MW come from the private sector. Over four million people have contributed money to these initiatives. A total of 3,200 megawatts of hydroelectric projects are presently being built, while 3,500 megawatts of projects are nearing financial close. Nepal has the capacity to produce 120,000 MW of hydroelectric power, according to a research conducted by the Water and Energy Commission. Nepal can produce 30,000 megawatts of solar electricity, according to research. Nepal can produce more than 200,000 MW of power during the rainy seasons, according to several other studies.
