42 climbers are granted permission to ascend Annapurna

42 climbers have obtained permits to climb Annapurna I in Narchyang, Myagdi district, with preparations underway for the spring season expedition. Government has collected Rs. 14.7 million in royalties from climbers, compared to Rs. 5.96 million in the previous spring season, as the Annapurna Base Camp and Maurice Herzog Trail become popular tourist destinations. Local youths from Narchyang, with permission from the rural municipality, have started operating tea shops, restaurants, and campsites near the base camp, providing food and accommodation to tourists, replacing the need for self-transportation.
The Maurice Herzog Trail, established in 2010, follows the Mistri Khola riverbank, passing through tall waterfalls, mountain views, and lush landscapes. It leads to Annapurna Base Camp and Panchakunda Lake, named after French climber Maurice Herzog in 2020. Annapurna’s 75th anniversary celebration is scheduled for June 3, 2025, at the Annapurna Base Camp. The event will feature Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Maurice Herzog’s family, foreign climbers, and international journalists. Annapurna Rural Municipality Chairperson Bharat Pun announced infrastructure development, including an open museum, to establish Maurice Herzog Trail and base camp as tourist destinations, with Rs. 12.5 million allocated for shelters, restrooms, and tea shops.
